iZotope's RX Loudness Control is an offline plug-in and part of the RX family of post production products. In faster than real-time, it analyzes mono, stereo or up to 5.1 surround files and renders a corrected version for broadcast loudness compliance with the goal of transparently preserving the dynamics of the original mix. It does this by applying only the compression and/or peak limiting as deemed necessary by the particular specifications/standard chosen. Worldwide loudness compliance is a new "fact of life" for broadcasters and online streaming companies.

I tried RX Loudness Control in Pro Tools 12; it runs as an AudioSuite processor and first analyzes a mix file and then goes about applying any correction to comply a particular loudness standard such as: BS.1770-1-3, EBU R128 s1, and ATSC A/85.

I also built my own set of presets for stereo CD mastering and iTunes Radio specifications and stored them. It is immediately obvious that all mix output from Pro Tools DAWs should conform to the loudness standard as required by the media/record company/releasing entities I'm working for--it's the new normal.

I liked RX Loudness Control's history view that shows graphically the entire length of the audio file with Integrated Loudness (the average loudness), Short-Term Loudness, Momentary Loudness, True Peak and Loudness Range in one screen. In order to both document and prove loudness (as broadcasters may have to verify for the FCC), loudness history can be exported as a CSV spreadsheet that opens in Excel and shows Integrated, Short-Term and Momentary readings time-stamped every 1 to 3 seconds.

As a plug-in, RX Loudness Control is a more comprehensive tool than the Loudness module in RX 4 with support for surround sound and the EBU R128 s1 standard.

Available on the Adobe CC platform and as an AudioSuite DPM/AAX plug-in, RX Loudness Control is currently compatible in Avid Media Composer, Avid Pro Tools 10-12, and Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

RX Loudness Control is available for $349 and for more about it, check: www.izotope.com/rxlc.
