Platinum Samples Jim Scott Rock Drums The latest offerings from Platinum Samples' Master Engineer Series of drum kits for FXpansion's BFD2 virtual drummer are the Jim Scott Rock Drums 1 & 2. The Jim Scott collection follows Platinum Samples' Joe Barresi's Evil Drums and Glamouflage Kit QuickPack, and Andy Johns' Classic Drums.

To quote ex-Music Connection editor Bud Scoppa in Mix Magazine: "One of L.A.'s most respected producers, engineers and mixers, Jim Scott has built his rep off of crisp, live-off-the-floor sounds and has Grammys for engineering Tom Petty's Wildflowers, Santana on Supernatural, Foo Fighters' One By One, and the Dixie Chicks' Taking the Long Way--the most recent of dozens of projects Scott has done with Rick Rubin, Petty, Johnny Cash, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Slayer."

With the Jim Scott Rock Drums you get top-notch recordings of fantastic kits from Jim's personal collection of classic drum kits from the 50's, 60's and 70's recorded at his own PLYRZ Studios using his Neve 8048 console. Volume 1 also includes Jim's recordings of Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Average White Band, Eric Clapton) playing their own personal studio kits. These samples were recorded at Sound City Studios (RHCP, Tom Petty, Nirvana) using their Neve 8028 console.

I was thrilled to install this great collection into my Pro Tools rig. The drum sounds are recorded exactly as I would try to engineer them--big, fat and solid--drum sounds that just work in any track. There are so many great choices; it was hard to decide--a good problem to have. There are no "dogs" in this collection taking up hard drive space. The collection of ready-to-go kits are very musical in the sense of their varying acoustical size.

Within BFD2, there is full mixer control of the multi-channel drums with as many as 256 velocity layers for true variation in playing without velocity scaling. Split into two volumes, Rock Drums Volume 1 includes a brush and blast sticks kit for a total of 59 drum and cymbal options. Rock Drums Volume 2 features three great kits offering a choice of 25 drums and cymbals.

Jim Scott's Rock Drums are available for $249.95 (Volume 1) and $129.99 (Volume 2) or as a combination pack for $319.99. These expansion packs requires BFD 2.1 and is both Mac OS X and Windows compatible. For more information, check www.platinumsamples.com.
