Isotonic System There came a time when musician Ed Stronsick hit the wall in his progress as a player. He believed his teacher and followed his guidance: to get better, "Keep Practicing". Ed persisted only to discover that he was still in one place and wanted to get to the next level. Ed did research and developed a method and equipment for increasing performance skills he calls the Isotonic System. He even guarantees that "It actually increases hand speed and endurance".

The Isotonic System package comes with a book, video and a pair of curious devices called Chopsticks. Lightweight squeeze-grips, the Chopsticks are not for forearm exercise, but for finger and hand development. They are designed to increase your speed as well as build up the lateral tissues to provide more support and increased endurance. The book's lessons describe the regime necessary for improvement while photos show the correct form for all exercises. The video demonstrates the proper angles of motion and offers additional motivation in completing an easy-to-learn, basic program. There are stretch exercises and a special section to stimulate coordination called Finger Intervals. This turned out to be a neurological challenge for me...a good thing!

As a keyboard player, I've found real benefit in just a few days. I was fortunate enough to have teachers who could encourage all kinds of exercise to help the craft (as well driving home the point about practicing). So now, I have included the Isotonic exercises for my hands along with bicycling and hiking to improve my breath control when singing. To have something specifically for hand flexibility and dexterity is a new and welcomed avenue for my personal growth. The Isotonic System costs $59.90 plus $8 for S&H. It comes with two Chopsticks, the Isotonic manual, Speed and Endurance video and a 60-day, "You'll get fast or send it back" guarantee. Available from Stronsick Solutions at: 626-683-1637.
