EMTEC and Alesis have produced a 45-minute instructional video that is a complete tutorial on light maintenance of your own ADAT recorders. A must for all ADAT owners, this video teaches you how to keep your machine(s) in top running order as well as spotting potential trouble before a costly repair is required. The video shows you how to maximize the recording heads' life; the proper cleaning methods, materials and tools; how to clone tapes; and making a reference or "golden" tape.

Aimed at the beginner, this video makes sense of some of the "buzz" words you've heard associated with ADAT operation. EMTEC, who distributes BASF Tape, talks about what tape stock to use while answering the question: "Should I use a head-cleaning tape." Appendix A shows what all front panel codes mean and Appendix B gives a tour of the entire interior of the ADAT transport. This internal understanding will cause you to operate your ADAT system in a more efficient manner with less wear and tear on the transport and heads as well as your precious master tapes. After about 200 to 500 hours of use, the oftened replaced part is the idler wheel and Appendix C does a complete job of teaching you how to replace it yourself. So if you are handy with some mechanical skill and a set of small tools, you can become an ADAT mechanic. Contact EMTEC Pro Media, Inc., at 888-295-5551 or 800-817-4478 or Web to: www.emtec-usa.com
