Orange Amp AD30 Guitar Amp
by Barry Rudolph

The AD30R is the 30-watt big brother of the 15-watt AD15 combo amp from Orange. The 30 uses four EL-34 power output tubes instead of just the two in the 15. This is a Class-A amplifier that uses a tube rectifier instead of solid-state diodes in the power supply circuitry. This type of circuitry prolongs tube life because the power supply "ramps up" the voltages to the tubes and the rest of the amplifier circuitry. A tube rectifier also adds a spongier overall sound and helps the amp respond in a more organic way to a player's touch and picking dynamics.

The AD30 comes with an Accutronic three-way spring reverb, bass, middle and treble controls, dual input jacks, enameled steel chassis and both eight and sixteen ohm outputs. The pre-amp section uses three ECC83 tubes and, along with the power amp section, is self-biased finding its own optimum performance range for greater harmonic content and warmer tone. The AD30 uses two, Celestion Vintage 30 twelve-inch speakers mounted in the amp's all plywood cabinet that's covered in bright orange with black piping.

Made in England, the AD30R sells for £441. For much more about it you should contact Orange Amp in London at 44-0171-240-8292 or WEB to: www.orange-amps.com
