  iZotope Stutter Edit 2

Stutter Edit 2 is the latest version of the all-in-one "slice n' dice" effect plug-in. Stutter Edit makes quick work of sequencing pieces of audio into exotic rhythmic effects--a technique that use to take hours to create only a few bars of music.

This new version is easier to setup and there are new effects including an upgraded two-band Distort module plus both Comb and Chorus modules. All these effects can be edited and combined into chains in any order for "jillions" of combinations. I thought the Limiter worked great to reign in the near madness and chaotic sounds possible here!

I liked Auto mode to add sound effects without any routing or connecting a MIDI controller at all. So not only could I quickly audition an effect, I could do all sorts of stuttering effects that were quantized right away during a mix. I began to build my own collection of presets the first time I opened and used Stutter Edit 2! I get it!

There is a new good sounding Reverb module along with a total of 11 effects plus an awesome collection of presets in BT's Signature Bank; these are excellent starting points to dial in just what fits your music. All presets are available and listed by MIDI note in gesture banks in the browser.

My first use was basic: I had three different programmed presets for verses, choruses and the bridge in a song and MIDI programmed Stutter Edit 2 to change presets for each those sections.

You can create instant rhythmic patterns using any sound or part of a sound. Use a single hi-hat hit or cause a vocal adlib to skip or pitch up/down existing percussion instruments. I used the Curve Editor to affect any setting in Stutter Edit 2 over the length of one measure. Very specific filter sweeps, reverb swells, and blends of lo-fi are all easy to do.

iZotope's Stutter Edit 2 has opened up BT's painstaking process for breaking audio into impossibly small fragments and using them for an all-new form of sound synthesis. This is now a matured production tool for modern music.

Stutter Edit sells for $199 and also comes with iZotope's Creative Suite 2. It runs AU, AAX, VST2, VST3 formats and on Macs OS 10.13 or higher and PCs Windows 8-Windows 10.
