LiquidSonics Cinematic Rooms Plug-in
  LiquidSonics Cinematic Rooms Plug-In

Cinematic Rooms is LiquidSonics' new reverb plug-in that supports up to 7.1.6 channels for Dolby ATMOS® and other immersive or surround sound formats. An ongoing challenge with multi-channel reverbs as been met by a new DSP technique that enables the mixer to shape and position de-correlated reflections in patterns easily--yet avoid weird cancellations and build-ups.

It will run in mono/stereo/surround, LCR, Stereo, 4.0/Quad, 5.0/5.1, 7.0/7.1, 7.0.2, and 7.1.2 channel widths. Two stereo extra auxiliary outputs are required for 7.1.4, and 7.1.6 channel modes. I tested in Pro Tools HDX and 7.1.2 is the maximum channel width. I liked that each of these channel modes are represented by separate instances in the pull-down menu with no additional programming or configuration required.

I am learning that Cinematic Rooms uses reflection and reverberation algorithms that are free of specific coloration so as to maintain a high degree of purity for use in any way(s) the mixer wants. Cinematic Rooms uses minimal CPU and that means you can freely use many instances in the surround spaces: the front, rear, side, center and elevated planes. There is a reduced CPU processing mode available that trades CPU load for processing delay (latency). I found that I didn't have to use that with my stereo mixing usage--no problem at all.

Cinematic Rooms In Stereo Mixing

Since I only mix in stereo (right now), I can report on how well it works in my Pro Tools HDX system--well enough to be included in my music mixing template now. It uses minimal CPU--I ran them on all 16 of my stereo summing master stems using the Wet/Dry control on each plug-in instance. Now I can add in ambience to any stem as required. Amazing for sure as I use a 10-year-old dual four-core MAC running OS 10.13.6.

I like the big spaces programs in Cinematic Rooms. Try the preset that comes up when you first insert it on a stereo Aux track--it's called Amethyst Hall or go over in the Spaces folder for Helios Space--an epic sounding reverb.

On a smaller scale, I found tight dry spaces good for my Pop music mixing work such as in the Rooms folder. Try the Rooms presets "Parched" or "Dark Cellar" that I found good for a bright snare drum track. I'm told: "that previously, very small room simulations often suffer from extreme coloration due to comb-filtering." I think there are a lot of spectacular short rooms simulations here and well worth using in any mix.

So as it is with new and awesome software or hardware gear, I'm busy exploring as much as possible! So far, I am never disappointed and always surprised at how good a reverb this is. I'm highly recommending Cinematic Rooms because of its range of powerful new workflow capabilities in an approachable and attractive interface. Cinematic Rooms truly is a simply powerful reverb.

There are two versions the Professional version at $249 and is full-featured for surround and ATMOS work with over 300 presets and the Standard version at $129 with 80 presets. Cinematic Rooms supports: Mac and PCs running AAX Native, VST2.4/3, AU and 64-bit DAWs.
