This updated microphone features a new larger body finished in custom metallic blue paint and comes with its own Roswell Cutaway™ shock mount and custom, heavy-duty carrying case. The shock mount is open in the front and allows for any close-in microphone positioning unlike regular "basket" style mounts.

Roswell Delphos II Kit

The mic has a frequency range of 20Hz to 16kHz but is voiced to provide full lows, neutral mid-range, and high-frequency detail without sibilance. Its sensitivity is rated at 40mV/Pa, with a self-noise level conservatively rated at 12dBA (very low). It uses a transformerless output circuit and has a switchable -10dB pad.

This is an amazing microphone at its price point that is built by hand and assembled in California using low-noise NOS transistors and audiophile capacitors.

I set up the Delphos II on a male singer songwriter--he plays acoustic and sings. I used Sonic Farm's Xcalibur JC Class-A Pentode Preamp with channel 1 for the mic and the other channel for the direct guitar using my Jensen Transformer JIK-DB1 Iso-Kit Direct Box. I set the Xcalibur for clean gain--no distortion and set the mic on cardioid pattern without the pad.

Immediately, while listening on the headphones, my singer remarked how great he sounded on the Delphos II! It has a forward and warm sound that is clear without being excessively bright. My singer is medium loud with good dynamic peaks that can distort microphones and recording chains but I never heard the mic clamp down or compress. I used no compression for this recording test that would "color" the sound and our impression of the microphone.

I'm just starting to explore using the Delphos II recording backing vocals on omni-directional pattern and using the Fig 8 pattern for recording acoustic guitar and other sources as I would using a ribbon mic.
